How do I watch the NBA and Raptors without cable in Canada?

By Julien Bélanger · Senior Cord-Cutting EditorLast updated September 4, 2026
Quick answer

You can follow the NBA in Canada without a cable box. National Raptors and league windows live mainly on TSN and Sportsnet (and their streaming apps). NBA League Pass is sold in Canada but blacks out nationally televised games — it is a complement, not a full replacement. A large live-channel IPTV subscription can carry those same national sports feeds in one guide, still subject to rights and blackouts. We do not help anyone dodge League Pass or regional restrictions.

Hockey has most of our sports archive; basketball is a different rights map. TSN and Sportsnet share Canadian NBA coverage, the Raptors are the in-market club for southern Ontario, and League Pass behaves unlike a US-only stream. This page stays on NBA. For hockey see watch the NHL without cable; for CFL see Canadian football live.

Blackouts
  • TSN and TSN+ — a large share of Raptors and national NBA games, via a licensed TV package or TSN's own streaming pass.
  • Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ — the other national slice of the NBA schedule, including some Raptors windows depending on the season's split.
  • NBA League Pass — out-of-market games, with national Canadian telecasts blacked out. Buy it expecting gaps on Tuesday TSN nights, not a complete season.
  • A large IPTV live-channel app — can gather the same TSN and Sportsnet categories plus the rest of a household's TV. Licensed content only; blackouts still apply.

Why League Pass frustrates Canadians

League Pass is marketed as 'every game' in markets that are not the local club's territory and not on national TV. In Canada, TSN and Sportsnet own big national windows, so those games drop out of League Pass. Raptors fans in the GTA also sit in-market: local Raptors telecasts are not what League Pass is for. The lawful fix is to pair League Pass with TSN+/Sportsnet+ (or a TV service that includes those nets), not to hunt a pirate feed.

Where Stable IPTV fits

If the reason you still rent a Bell or Rogers box is 'Raptors plus everything else,' an IPTV subscription is the one-app version of that idea: national sports categories, Canadian news, and diaspora channels on a Firestick. It is not a licensed NBA distributor and it does not create new rights. Hamilton and Toronto households share this market — IPTV Toronto, IPTV Hamilton.

Playoff nights and bandwidth

Raptors playoff tips often collide with the 7–11pm Canadian peak. Budget 25–50 Mbps per HD screen and wire the player. Multi-TV math is on IPTV on multiple TVs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I watch the Raptors without Rogers or Bell TV?
Yes, through TSN+ and/or Sportsnet+ (and over-the-air is not the NBA's model). A large IPTV app may include those national sports categories. League Pass alone will not cover nationally televised Raptors games.
Does NBA League Pass work in Canada?
Yes, with blackouts on games that TSN or Sportsnet are airing nationally, and in-market Raptors restrictions. Read the current League Pass fine print on NBA.com before you buy.
Is IPTV a way around NBA blackouts?
No. We will not help you bypass blackouts or DRM. If a game is exclusive to a licensed net where you live, that is where to watch it — IPTV and Canadian law.
What about French-language NBA?
French households typically follow Raptors and league windows on the French sports nets carried in Québec packages (RDS/TVA Sports categories, season-dependent). Confirm on WhatsApp; see IPTV Montréal.
Firestick or TiviMate for basketball?
Either. TiviMate's guide is nicer for hopping TSN/Sportsnet — TiviMate setup. A Firestick is enough for one HD screen.
